Obstructive sleep apnea is a sleep disorder signified by episodes when the patient is unable to breathe during sleep and must wake up for a few seconds to resume breathing before returning to sleep. These episodes can happen frequently throughout the night and the most pronounced symptom of the disorder or of "sleep-disordered breathing" in both adults and children is snoring.
