Children's activity decline is quantified.(News)(Brief article)

Researchers using data from a National Institutes of Health study have quantified, as never before, children's significant decline in physical activity (Journal of the American Medical Association, July 16). Analyzing data from 1,032 children born in 1991, who took part in the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development, the researchers found a dramatic decline in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) between the ages of 9 and 15. The number of minutes of MVPA was measured by an accelerometer in four-to-seven-day periods at ages 9, 11, 12, and 15.
