Obesity threatens the health and economic security of the entire United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about two-thirds of American adults are overweight or obese, and nearly one-third of children are overweight or obese. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has estimated that the expenses associated with obesity in the United States add up to $117 billion each year.
