The connection between lack of sleep and weight gain (JOPERD, May/June 2005, p. 5; and Jan. 2007, pp. 3-4) apparently extends to infants according to a recent study published in Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine (April, 2008). The researchers found that infants who slept less than 12 hours per day had a significantly higher risk for overweight. The participants in the longitudinal survey were parents of 915 children who were tracked from ages six months to three years old.
