Should apprenticeship be embraced as a viable alternative route to becoming a physical education teacher?(Issues)

I do not support apprenticeship and alternative certification for health and physical education teachers. The teacher education process allows students to learn, master, and apply health and physical education content, pedagogy, and practical teaching skills. Alternative certification circumvents this process at the expense of the potential teacher, schools, and students. Alternative certification programs assume that because an individual has an advanced degree or experience working in health and fitness careers, that person will be qualified to teach elementary and secondary school children.
