In this article we argue that content misalignment is not a central problem in the preparation of future physical education teachers. The courses taught in most college curricula are generally relevant for professionals who will be teaching movement skills and exercise routines for enjoyment and healthful living to children. However, based on recent research in kinesiology and developmental psychology, we think that the focus in the curriculum should be expanded from its current concentration on health benefits to a more expansive list of outcomes including, in particular, cognitive functioning.
