TODAY, the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland celebrate the 75th birth anniversary of their Queen, Elizabeth II. The Queen was born in London, the elder daughter of King George VI and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. In 1944, she served as a Councilor of State while her father was on the war front in Italy. She married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on November 20, 1947, and a year later gave birth to a son, Charles. In 1950, she gave birth to a daughter, Anne. Queen Elizabeth succeeded to the throne on the death of her father on February 6, 1952, and was crowned at Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953.
