Singapore has been making a major effort to establish the
presence of a robust life sciences industry here, whose development,
as its leaders said, is set to surpass that of the current booming
Internet in a matter of years.
Actually, Singapore noted the potential of life sciences in the
1980s when it decided to make life sciences the fourth economic
pillar, after the chemical, electronics and engineering industries.
Unlike the IT and E-commerce, where the development time for new
products can be counted in months, the life sciences requires time
and sustained effort to yield results.
