A DEFIANT Aung San Suu Kyi emerged from two weeks of house arrest
last night to lay down a challenge to Burma's military junta - stop
us if you dare.
In ten days' time, Ms Suu Kyi predicted, there will be a new
crisis on the outskirts of Rangoon as she moves again to test the
boundaries the Burmese government rigidly places on the woman whose
claims to power it rejected a decade ago.
And so the game goes on between one of the nastiest military
regimes on the planet and the stymied symbol of better nation built
on idealism, democracy and respect for the rights of man.
When it comes, the next confrontation will again underline that
Ms Suu Kyi remains the bird with the siren song trapped ...
