NORTH CONWAY, N.H. -- Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa regularly brings
campaign crowds to their feet with populist-tinged speeches, but
yesterday a potential presidential candidate, Jesse L. Jackson, stole
his thunder.
But not necessarily Harkin's support.
Several delegates to the state's AFL-CIO convention said that
while Jackson was electrifying, Harkin, a fellow Democrat, raised
pocketbook issues that they expected Democratic presidential
candidates to concentrate on.
The state's 40,000 AFL-CIO union members are expected to have
greater political influence in 1992 because, leaders say, organized
labor is no longer fighting state party leaders over the Seabrook
