REPORT RAISES AGENDA, HOPES FOR SPY POND REVIVAL ARLINGTON SEEKING REGIONAL APPROACH TO FUNDING $1.2M SOLUTIONS

ARLINGTON -- During a walk along the banks of Spy Pond in Arlington, Betsy Leondar-Wright pointed to a large storm drain that empties salt and sand from nearby snowy streets into her favorite urban oasis.

That is only one problem contributing to the demise of Spy Pond. It also is suffering from erosion, because of a rising water level, and contamination from lawn fertilizers and animal droppings that encourage an overgrowth of algae and aquatic weeds. The murky water is bad for fish, the 100 species of visiting birds and people paddling around in kayaks or canoes.
