Bureau of Public Debt announces series EE savings bond rate

The Bureau of the Public Debt announced recently the rate for Series LL savings bonds issued on or after May 1, 1997, for November 2000 through April 2001.

The 5.54 percent Series EE savings bond rate is in effect for bonds issued on or after May 1, 1997, that enter semiannual earnings periods from November 2000 through April 2001. The rate is 90 percent of the average five-year Treasury securities yields for the preceding six months. A new interest rate is announced effective each May 1 and Nov. 1.
